No: II-17-006 March 7, 2017 CONTACT: Roger Hannah 404-997-4417 Joey Ledford 404-997-4416 NRC Names Senior Resident Inspector at Vogtle Nuclear Plant Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in Atlanta have selected Matt Endress as the agencys senior resident inspector at Southern Nuclear Operating Co.s Vogtle nuclear power plant Units 1 and 2, located near Waynesboro, Ga., about 26 miles southeast of Augusta. Endress joins Resident Inspector Alejandro Alen who has been at the Vogtle site since 2014.
The company is also constructing two new units at the site, and the NRC has separate resident inspectors assigned to the construction units.
Endress joined the NRC in 2011 as a reactor engineer in the Division of Reactor Safety in the NRCs Region II office in Atlanta. He later worked as the resident inspector at the Turkey Point nuclear plant in Homestead, Fla.
Prior to joining the NRC, he served in the U.S. Navy as a nuclear-trained submarine warfare officer, and also worked as a process engineer in manufacturing.
He holds a bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta and a masters degree in Business Administration from Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz.
Matt Endress brings a mix of technical experience and regulatory perspective important in the NRC mission of helping ensure the safe operation of the two Vogtle operating units, said NRC Region II Administrator Cathy Haney.
At least two NRC resident inspectors are assigned to each U.S. commercial nuclear plant. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring major work projects, and interacting with plant workers and the public. Resident inspectors can serve at one site for up to seven years.
The NRC resident inspectors at the two operating Vogtle plant units can be reached at 706-554-9901.
