Staff from the NRC will discuss their Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (DSEIS) in a meeting to be held from 7-10 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 7, at the Waynesboro Auditorium of the Augusta Technical College, Waynesboro/Burke Campus, 216 Highway 24 South. The NRC will transcribe the meetings and post the transcript on the agencys website at:

http://www.nrc.gov/reactors/new-reactors/col/vogtle.html. NRC staff will also be available for informal discussions with members of the public during an open house session from 6-7 p.m.

No formal comments on the DSEIS will be accepted during the open house.

The DSEIS is available on the agency website at: http://www.nrc.gov/reactors/new-reactors/col/vogtle.html. The DSEIS is also available via the NRCs electronic document database, ADAMS, by entering accession number ML102370278 in the ADAMS search engine at: http://adamswebsearch.nrc.gov/dologin.htm. In addition, the Burke County Library, 130 Highway 24 South in Waynesboro, will have a hardbound copy of the DSEIS available for public inspection.

Southern Nuclear Operating Company submitted its new reactor application on March 23, 2008, and supplemented the application on Oct. 2, 2009. Southern is applying for licenses to build and operate two AP1000 reactors at the Vogtle site, adjacent to the companys existing reactors approximately 26 miles southeast of Augusta, Ga. Westinghouse submitted an application to amend the already-certified AP1000, a 1,100 megawatt electric design, on May 26, 2007. Those wishing to speak may also register at the meeting no later than 6:45 p.m.

Individual comments could be limited by the time available and the number of people wishing to speak.

NRC staff will also consider written comments on the DSEIS through Nov. 24.
