NRC NEWS U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION Office of Public Affairs Telephone: 301/415-8200 Washington, DC 20555-0001 E-mail: opa@nrc.gov Web Site: www.nrc.gov No.03-013 January 23, 2003 NRC FINDS NO SIGNIFICANT ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT FROM EXTENDED OPERATION OF PEACH BOTTOM NUCLEAR PLANTS The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has issued its final environmental impact statement on the proposed renewal of the operating license of the Peach Bottom nuclear power plants. In the report, the NRC staff found there are no environmental impacts that would preclude license renewal for an additional 20 years of operation.

The Peach Bottom nuclear facility is located 18 miles south of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in York County. The operating licenses for Units 2 and 3 expire on August 8, 2013, and July 2, 2014, respectively.

Exelon Corporation, the operator of the plants, submitted an application for the renewal of the licenses on July 2, 2001.

As part of its environmental review of the application, the NRC held public meetings near the plant concerning the scope of the review and a draft version of the environmental impact statement for the plant. Comments were received from members of the public, local officials and representatives of other agencies.

The report is available electronically on the NRC web site at:
