SUBJECT:
Extension Request for Determination of Denial of Non-Cited Violation Palisades Nuclear Plant Docket 50-255 Renewed Facility Operating License No. DPR-20
Reference:
- 1. NRC letter, "Palisades Nuclear Plant - NRC Integrated Inspection Report 05000255/2015004," dated February 12, 2016 (ADAMS Accession No. ML16047A125)
Dear Sir or Madam:
Reference 1 documents the results of an NRC inspection conducted at the Palisades Nuclear Plant. The inspection identified four Non-Cited Violations (NCVs). One of the NCVs concerned a Severity Level IV violation for the failure to perform a required 50.59 evaluation for declassification of the chemical and volume control system (CVCS). This NCV was the result of a component design basis inspection that began at the site in September 2014.
The referenced inspection report states that if the licensee contests the subject or severity of the NCVs, a response containing the basis for denial should be provided within 30 days of the date of the inspection report.
Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc. (ENO) has been reviewing differences between what was understood at the exit meeting and what is contained in the report. Due to the complex nature of the issue and the large amount of information involved, ENO is requesting an additional 60 days from the date of this letter to determine whether the NCV should be contested.
This letter contains no new commitments and no revised commitments.
Sincerely, QA1~~.
