STATE OF WASHINGTON SUSPENSION OF WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY AND U. S. ECOLOGY, INC. PERMITS FOR RADIOACTIVE WASTE BURIAL Tha Region V office was notified by a letter dated July 24, 1986 from the State of Washington that a shipment of radioactive waste was received on July 17, 1986 from Wayne Stats University, Detroit, Michigan. U. S. Ecology was the broker on the shipment. Upon sxamination by the state inspector, one drum had a hole punched from the inside by a heavy p:inted, unsecured object or article which would violate Department of Transportation ragulation 49 CFR 173.425(b)(1). Based upon this violation the State of Washington banned b:th the shipper and the broker from use of the burial site and suspended burial permits (Nea. 8170 and 7102) effective July 18, 1986. There was no radioactive contamination ecsociated with the shipment.

Tha Region V office was notified of the action taken by the State of Washington by a letter which was received on July 28, 1986. Region III was notified by the State of Washington.
