UPDATE ON THE MISSING CESIUM 137 CAllBRATION SOURCE On August 18,1997, a representative of the U.S. Air Force Radioisotope Committee (RIC)

I confirmed by telephone to Region IV staff that an 85 millicurie sealed cesium 137 calibration source, previously reported missing on August 8,1997, was found. The source was supposed to have been shipped via common carrier motor freight from McChord Air Force Base (AFB), Washir.gton, to Wyle Labs in Ohio. The package with the source was found at the New Cumberland Army Depot in Pennsylvania. Source verification was made through the sealed source's serial number. The USAF RIC determined that McChord AFB had inadvertently mislabeled the package containing the sealed source by incorrectly addressing it to the New Cumberland Army Depot.

Region IV has informed NMSS and Region Ill. The states of Washington and Oregon will be informed.

The information herein has been discussed with the licensee and is current as of 2 p.m.
