SUBJECT:

RESUMPTION OF CURRENTLY HALTED CONSTRUCTION AT THE SOUTH TEXAS PROJECI, DCCKET NO. 50-498; 50-499 On October 2,1980, Houston Lighting and Power Company requested limited restart of safety-related welding and complex ccacrete placement. The request outlined work to be initiated for placement of ecmplex concrete pours and limited AWS and ASME welding. Contingent cm authorization, the following schedule was set for I

Based on review of completed corrective action in accordance with response to the Show Cause Order, re-ar mination, repair and restart of AWS welding was allowed on a limited basis.

With regard to restart of ASME welding and resumptien of placement of complex concrete pours, correctiva action was not considered ccmplete.

Consequently the restart of work in these areas was not allowed.

A press release by NRC is planned.

Site construction progress is currently reported as 56% for Unit 1 and 207. for Unit 2.
