- Site Area Emergency General Emergency X Not Applicable Subject REACTOR SHUTDOWN TO REPAIR EMERGENCY DIESEL GENERATOR VOLTAGE REGULATOR On May 8, 1997, the Unit 2 reactor was shut down to repair the "AB".
emergency diesel generator, voltage regulator.
The emergency diesel generator had been removed from service for routine maintenance on May 5, 1997,. and the Unit entered a 72 hour8.333333e-4 days <br />0.02 hours <br />1.190476e-4 weeks <br />2.7396e-5 months <br /> Limiting Condition for Operation (LCO). As part of the maintenance, the voltage regulator circuit boards were cleaned and checked.
During post-maintenance
- testing, the manual portion of the voltage regulator failed, and efforts to repair the voltage regulator within the 72 hour8.333333e-4 days <br />0.02 hours <br />1.190476e-4 weeks <br />2.7396e-5 months <br /> LCO were not successful.
The plant's Technical Specifications require Unit shutdown if one emergency diesel generator is out of service longer than 72 hours8.333333e-4 days <br />0.02 hours <br />1.190476e-4 weeks <br />2.7396e-5 months <br />.
Repair activities are in progress, and un'it startup is planned for Hay 12, 1997.
The State of Michigan will be informed.
The information in this preliminary notification has been reviewed with licensee management.
NRC resident and the Operational Safety Team Inspection (OSTI) inspectors will monitor the licensee's repair efforts.
The licensee notified the NRC Operations Center of this event at 2:54 p.m.
