SUBJECT:

  • DEGRADED EMERGENCY BORATION CAPABILITY The licensee reported that on October 30, 1980, while operating at full power; they took diesel generator 1-2 out of service for surveillance.testing while one charging pump (P-55-C) on the opposite emergency bus was out of service for maintenance.

This condition lasted for less than five minutes but was in violation of the facility technical specifications.

The safety injection capability of the plant was not degraded by this event but the emergency boration capability provided by the charging pumps was degraded for this five minute interval.

This matter is being followed by the. Resident Inspector.

A red phone notification was made by the licensee.

Region III received notification of this occurrence by telephone fromthe Headquarters Watch Officer at about 10:00 p.m. (CDT) on October 30, 1980.

Updated information was obtained from the licensee at 8:00 a.m. (CDT) October 31, 1980.

The above information is current as of that time.
