Subject:

UNIT STARTUP AFTER PROLONGED SHUTDOWN The Palisades Nuclear Plant achieved criticality at 0544 on May 24, 1980, after a shutdown of more than eight months.

During the shutdown, extensive construction/modification work was completed including TMI modifica-tions, feedwater line replacement (IEB 79-13), seismic restraint modifications (IEB's 79-02 and 79-14), and replacement of the boric acid heat tracing system.

Large scale review and upgrading of plant checklists and pro.cedures was com-pleted pursuant to an NRC Order Modifying License No. DPR-20 (PN-III-79-138).

The unit was refueled early in the outage.
