The information is as initially received without verification or evaluation, and is basically all that is known by the Region III staff on this date.

UPDATE TO PERRY UNEXPECTED REACTOR SHUT DOWN EXCEEDING 72 HOURS DUE TO PROBLEM WITH REACTOR RECIRCULATION PUMP MOTOR DESCRIPTION:

This preliminary notification supplements information in PNO-III-07-009, which documented the shutdown of Perry Unit 1 on June 29, 2007, to repair the motor of one of the two reactor water recirculation pumps.

Troubleshooting revealed that motor replacement was necessary. The motor was replaced on July 16, 2007, and subsequently passed its post-maintenance testing requirements.

Reactor startup commenced on July 23, 2007, at 4:58 pm. Startup is in progress and the plant is currently scheduled to synchronize to the grid on July 24, 2007.

The plants shutdown has been covered by local media outlets.

The information in this preliminary notification has been reviewed with licensee management and is current as of 9:30 a.m. on July 24, 2007.
