March 20, 2007 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE -- PNO-III-07-005 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance. The information is as initially received without verification or evaluation, and is basically all that is known by the Region III staff on this date.

SUBJECT:

NON-CREDIBLE BOMB THREAT DESCRIPTION:

At approximately 8 p.m. on March 19, 2007, the plant staff at the Prairie Island plant received a telephoned bomb threat that was determined by the licensee to be non-credible. Based on a preliminary review, NRC determined that the plant staff implemented its security procedures and took appropriate action. Local law enforcement authorities were notified and responded to the site. The matter remains under investigation by the police.

The licensee promptly notified the NRC Senior Resident Inspector and the NRC Operations Center.

The State of Minnesota, county and local governments were notified. Additionally, the Prairie Island Indian Community was notified. The licensee issued a news release on March 20, 2007.

The information in this preliminary notification has been reviewed with licensee management.
