DIAGNOSTIC MISADMINISTRATION At 1:46 p.m. on September 29, 1999, the licensee's Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) notified the NRC Operations Center of a diagnostic minedministration that had occurred on September 28, 1999. A patient was given 2.76 millicuries of sodium iodide I-131 for a whole body diagnostic ecan rather than the prescribed 2.0 millicuries. Approximately one hour after the administration, the technologist notified the authorized user that a dosage of 2.76 instead of 2.0 mil 11 curies had been administered.

Although above the amount specified in the written directive, the amount administered is within the range of 2 and 5 millicuries normally used by the licensee.

Region II'will inspect the licensee's facility next week. The State of North Carolina has been notified.
