On August 16, 1993, at approximately 3:09 p.m., a small fire occurred on y/ 4 the exhaust manifold of the "A" emergency diesel generator which was

being run for routine surveillance testing. Auxiliary operators responded by extinguishing the small (one inch)-flame with a portable fire extinguishe:*.

an ALERT was declared at 3:lfp.m. for a fire on safety related equipment. The licensee remained in an ALERT pending activation of the Technical Support Center. The Jency diesel generator is presently operating until completion of the The licensee is evaluating the exhaust manifold for any fire o age. The ALERT was terminated at 4:38 p.m.
The State of South Carolina was informed by the licensee.
The NRC received initial notification of this event by the licensee at 3:49 p.m. (EDT) on August 16, 1993.
The NRC Senior Resident is enroute to the site.
