False Media Report Of Damage To Research Reactor On the morning of May 5, 1993, the Harris resident inspector heard a radio report in Raleigh that the North Carolina State University Research

. Reactor had been damaged by a fire.

This report was false.

On May 3, 1993, there was a substantial fire in an Electronics Research Laboratory Building across the street from the research reactor.

The fire did not impact the research reactor or the building containing the research reactor.

The fire was caused by a hydrogen leak in the research building.

The hydrogen leak was caused by an earlier loss of power to the entire campus.

The research reactor was not operating when the campus lost power.

The staff at the research reactor started an emergency diosel to provide light to the building.

The State of North Carolina has been informed.
