Subject:

INJURED WORKER A contractor employee was injured at about 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 2, 1993, while working in the Unit 4 containment (the unit was defueled at the time). A part from scaffolding that was being disassembled fell about l 40 feet and struck the individual on the head. He was wearing a hardhat l at the time. The injured person was transported to a local hospital by ambulance with a licensee health physics escort. On arrival at the hospital, the injured person was determined to-be not contaminated, was given 17 stitches in the forehead, and was released from the hospital.

i Tha individual was medically restricted from work pending reexamination on May 3, 1993. The licensee did not issue a press release.

Tho State of Florida has been notified by Region II.

The NRC received initial notification of this event by telephone call to the resident inspector at 4:00 p.m. on May 2, 1993.
