Subject:

TRANSPORTATION OF POTENTIALLY CONTAMINATED INJURED WORKER On November 9, 1992, at 4:05 p.m.

(EST), the licensee made a notification-of unusual event (NOUE) when a potentially contaminated injured worker-was transported to Dozier Memorial Hospital in Southport, North Carolina.

The worker, who had been working in a contaminated area of the Unit 2 reactor building cleaning and unplugging drain lines, received lacerations to the back of one leg when a high pressure line burst on the hydrolaser equipment he was using.

Since the injured worker was frisked while lying on a gurney, the licensee was unable to frisk his back; terefore, he was treated as potentially contaminated.

A health physics technician accompanied the worker to the hospital.

Subsequent to transport, the worker was determined to be uncontaminated, and the NOUE was terminated at 4:48 p.m.

NRC was notified of this event via telephone call to the Headquarters Duty Officer on November 9, 1992, at 4:51 p.m.
