SUBJECT:
INITIAL CRITICALITY The unit achieved initial criticality at 5:25 a.m. (EDT) today.
Actual parameters were in close agreement with predicted conditions, and criticality was achieved without incident.
Two NRC inspectors were in the control room and witnessed the approach to criticality.
Media interest is expected. The licensee plans to issue a news release. The NRC does not plan a news release.
The State of South Carclina has been informed.
Region II (Atlanta) was informed of this event by telephone from the NRC inspector at 7:27 a.m. today.
