UPDATE - SHUTDOWN GREATER THAN 72 HOURS: AUTOMATIC REACTOR SCRAM DUE TO MAIN TRANSFORMER FAULT This preliminary notification supplements information in PNO-I-08-013, which documented an automatic reactor scram at the Oyster Creek generating station that resulted in a shutdown greater than 72 hours8.333333e-4 days <br />0.02 hours <br />1.190476e-4 weeks <br />2.7396e-5 months <br />. The scram was caused by a main transformer internal fault.

AmerGen replaced the failed transformer with an on-site spare. Following maintenance and testing activities associated with the installation of the spare transformer, AmerGen plans to restore Oyster Creek to full power operation.

Currently, the plant is critical, and heating up. AmerGen plans to return the plant to full power within 48 hours5.555556e-4 days <br />0.0133 hours <br />7.936508e-5 weeks <br />1.8264e-5 months <br />.

The NRC staff continues to closely follow AmerGens causal evaluations and corrective actions.

NRC oversight will be conducted through the Agencys normal independent baseline inspections, by the on-site resident inspectors.

The information presented herein has been verified with AmerGen and is current as of December 5, at 2:30 p.m.
