Dear Dr. Butler:
This letter is provided in response to the NRC staff's concerns regarding the Fire Protection Program at Susquehanna SES.
Specifically it addresses the concerns regarding reliance upon unrated fire zone boundaries and the analysis of associated circuits within the control room.
Attached are summary reports addressing each of these concerns.
Interim plant procedures are currently under development to support the results of the analyses.
This work is expected to be completed and the procedures implemented by September 23, 1985.
Schedules for the completion of necessary modifications are provided in the reports.
Compensatory measures currently in effect will remain in effect until all modifications are completed.
Each report contains requests for exemptions from regulatory requirements.
We request the staff review these requests in a timely manner and provide us with your disposition.
It is PP&L's conclusion, that upon completion of the designated modification, acceptance of the requested exemption by the staff, and the implementation of required procedures, we will have resolved the staff's concerns regarding unrated fire boundaries and analysis of associated circuits in the control room.
