RENEWAL OF FULL-POWER OPERATING LICENSE FOR ARKANSAS NUCLEAR ONE, UNIT 2 This memorandum informs the Commission of the issuance of a renewed facility operating license for Arkansas Nuclear One, Unit 2 (ANO-2). By letter dated October 14, 2003, Entergy Operations, Inc., submitted an application to renew the operating license for ANO-2. The staff reviewed the license renewal application in accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) Parts 51 and 54. Region IV also performed inspections, as described in a May 15, 2005, memorandum from Bruce Mallett, Regional Administrator to James E. Dyer, Director, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation. The staff documented the results of its safety review in its Safety Evaluation Report Related to the License Renewal of the Arkansas Nuclear One, Unit 2, which was published as NUREG-1828 in June 2005.
With respect to environmental matters, the staff documented the results of its reviews in a supplemental environmental impact statement published as NUREG-1437, Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants, Supplement 19, Regarding Arkansas Nuclear One, Unit 2, dated April 2005.
Pursuant to the Commissions June 5, 2002, staff requirements memorandum, SECY-02-0088, the Director of the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation issued Renewed Facility Operating License No. NPF-6 for Arkansas Nuclear One, Unit 2, on June 30, 2005. The staff completed the final action within 22 months meeting the agencys goal for reviewing a license renewal application that is not subject to a hearing.
2 The staff currently informs the Commission of license renewals via memoranda and the EDO Daily Notes. In the interest of efficiency, the staff proposes to discontinue issuing memoranda and to utilize the EDO Daily Notes as the vehicle for informing the Commission of the issuance of renewed operating licenses.
