The subject document was prepared _by.NRC staff in.early March 1983. The report was based on interview~.. of PS~_&G p,ersonnel and infonnation collected at the Salem -site during the.geri.od March 2-7, 198.3..
In this regard, the Task Force interviewed variou~ memQers of the PSE&G staff and in response to NRC., requests for all avail~,bl~ informa_tion. numerous documents were proviq_~d. It now appears that, additional inrormation is becoming.
available beyond that provide~.to.the NRC Fact-Finding Tas.k Force.and may not be consistent with infonna:ti.on.pr:eviously p~ovided,.. For. example, there are questions as to the speci"(i.c typ.e of cleaner/lubricant.used during reactor trip breaker maintenaqce and the tQt_al number, of reactor trip breakers maintained in Januar.v.19$3 with the assistance/guidance of a vendor representative. Similarly, t~,e fact-Finding Task Force was not provided a Westinghouse Service Re.port.. d.ated.January.19, 198_3.
Subsequent staff discussions with Westinghouse,,,iden.tified.the _existence of this document and it was provided to the stt\\,ff by Westinghouse.
Therefore, we request that you review.NUREG-0977 with the puspose of:
- 1) identifying apparent incon~ist_encies based on the latest infonnation availabl'e to you; 2) providing _an _explanai~*:h:m.of why inconsistencies exist; and 3) providing gour b,asts for ascertaining the.relevance of the new infonnation.. The results;_~of. y_our review,should be.provid~d to thts offic~, in writin_g~ as soon.as... possible.
