c. o Docket No.: 50-483 Mr. D. F. Schnell Vice President - Nuclear MAR 171996 Union Electric Company Post Office Box 149 St. Louis, Missouri 63166

Dear Mr. Schnell:

Subject:

License Condition 2.c.(3)(a), Callaway Unit 1 License Condition 2.c.(3)(a) to Facility Operating License NPF-30 for Callaway Unit I requires the electrical equipment within the scope of 10 CFR 50.49 be en-vironmentally qualified in accordance with the schedule in that rule.

Your environmental qualification programs have previously been reviewed and found acceptable. The results of the staff review are detailed in section 3.11 of the Callaway SER (NUREG-0830).

At the time of the staff review not all equipment within the environmental qual-ification program was considered fully qualified. Acceptable justification for interim operation was provided for those equipment items not fully qualified.

The above condition was included in the Callaway operating license to assure timely completion of qualification within regulatory requirements.

By letter dated November 29, 1985 from N. A. Petrick (SNUPPS) to H. R. Denton (NRC), you stated that all electrical equipment hs been environmentally qual-ified to the provisions of 10 CFR 50.49. A final report detailing your position was submitted on January 17, 1986.

Since the staff has already reviewed and approved the Callaway qualification programs, the notification provided in the above letter with subsequent submit-tal of the final report, is adequate to satisfy the condition imposed on the operating license.

Based on the above, the staff finds that License Condition 2.c.(3)(a) has been fulfilled.

Sincerely, 8603200474 860317 b\
