Dear Mr. Quay:

Please find attached 10 copies each of WCAPs 14695,14694,14396,14690,14655, and 14401. This completes some Westinghouse AP600 Design Certification activities related to DSER Chapter 18 and NUREG 0711 Elements as outlined below.

Element 1 The E ESBU Quality Policy and Procedures Manual, Procedure 4.12, Design Reviews, has been revised and includes information requirements for the human-machine interface. No further action required.

Element 2 Westinghouse has received the NRC letter of August 12,1996, "Iluman Factors Comments on the AP600 Draft Operating Experience Review Report." WCAP-14645 will be revised to address these comments as well as DSER OITS items 1316 through 1322 and 2063. The WCAP revision will be completed by September 30,1996.

Element 3 Westinghouse has received the NRC letter of August 8,1996, "AP600 Iluman Factors Engineering Comments on the Draft Functional Requirements Analysis and Function Allocation Document." WCAP-14644 will be revised to address these comments as well as DSER OITS open items 1323 through 1337 and 2465 through 2468. The WCAP revision will be completed by September 30,1996.

Note: Except for OITS open item 2466, which is a compilation of DSER open items 18.4.3.2-1 through 7, each of the Element 3 OITS items is statused by Westinghouse as RESOLVED. A telephone conference will be held in early September to discuss 18.4.3.2-1, the only Element 3 DSER open item which is not RESOLVED.

be completed by September 30,1996. When that WCAP is submitted, Westinghouse j activities for Element 6 will be complete and DSER OITS open items 1348 through 1353 will be statused by Westinghouse as CLOSED.

Element 7 Ten copies of WCAP-14396 Revision 1 (non-proprietary class 3), " Man-In-The-Loop Test Plan Description," are attached. Submittal of this WCAP and SSAR Revision 9 Chapter 18 completes Westinghouse activities for Element 7. DSER OITS open items  ;

Element 8 Ten copies of WCM-14690 (non-proprietary class 3), " Designer's Input to Procedure Development For le AP600," are attached. Element 10 Ten copies of WCAP-14401 Revision 1 (non-proprietary class 3), " Programmatic Level Description of the AP600 Human Factors Verification and Validation Plan," are attached. Issuance of WCAP-14701, " Methodology and Results Evaluation Issues for AP600 HSI Design Test Program," on August 30,1996, will complete Westinghouse  !

activities for Element 10. There are no assigned DSER OITS open items.

In summary, WCAP 14701 will be issued by August 30,1996, completing Westinghouse activities for  !

Element 10. WCAPs-14645,14651, and 14644 will be revised by September 30,1996 and, with their issuance, Westinghouse activities for Elements 2,3,4, and 6 will be complete.

In addition to the items statused above, there are DSER Chapter 18 open items in OITS which are assigned to ITAACs. These are items 1340,1341,1342,1395,13%,1397, and 2044. Westinghouse expects the NRC to review the WCAPs submitted in support of a timely AP600 FDA.
