Dockets 50-266 and 50-301 Fourth Ten-Year Snubber Testing Interval Relief Request SP-1 Point Beach Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2 In accordance with 10 CFR 50.55a(f)(6)(i) Nuclear Management Company, LLC, operator of the Point Beach Nuclear Plant (PBNP), is requesting relief from specific code requirements relief is requested from the Code for Operation and Maintenance of Nuclear Power Plants, 1995 Edition with 1996 Addenda, Subsection ISTD, during the Fourth Ten-Year Snubber Testing Interval.
The testing of hydraulic shock suppressors (snubbers) at PBNP Units 1 and 2 is currently performed in accordance with ASME OM-4, 1987 Edition. A 120-month periodic update of the inservice testing (IST) program is being performed in accordance with 10 CFR 50.55a. To allow for consistency and proper maintenance of inservice testing requirements, the snubber test program will also be updated in accordance with 10 CFR 50.55a.
In accordance with 10 CFR 50.55a(a)(3)(i), PBNP requests relief from Subsection ISTD 7.5.3 requirements. [The ISTD requirement is to make the snubbers attached to the steam generator one separate defined test group plan (DTGP).] PBNP requests that the snubbers attached to the steam generator and the main steam line be considered one DTPG. Attached relief request SP-1 provides the basis for this request. The relief request will be implemented during the Fourth Ten-Year Snubber Test Program examination interval that begins on September 1, 2002, for Unit 1 and on October 1, 2002, for Unit 2.
