4609 Shoshoni Ave San Diego, CA, 92117 Email: patricia_gracian@yahoo.com General Comment I am very disturbed to note that our citizens have not been told by our local media about your disastrous intentions to bury dangerous nuclear waste at the San Onofre Nuclear Power plant in thin-skinned casks that probably cannot withstand any serious perturbations- such as the expected earthquakes that are overdue for California, or any tsunami that could be triggered by perturbations across the ocean, or by rising waters expected imminently due to melting glaciers!

It is foolhardy to use the short-sighted plan that looks only 40 years to the future, when all of these threats are expected, and when we should be striving to REMOVE all of the nuclear waste from our shores and from the proximity to Las Angeles and all of the other southern California cities and towns! The storage casks chosen must be strong enough to withstand these threats and to withstand removal and transportation away from the coastline of southern California!

Page 2 of 2 I demand that you use a reasonable time-line and plan for a 1000-yr storage. I understand there is a plan called HELMS that does a good job of addressing all of my concerns and uses mush stronger double-walled storage casks that can withstand the removal and transportation process with more chances of success.

I will continue to oppose your short-sighted plan of using thin-skinned casks and of continued storage on our southern California coasts.
