Enclosure to NL-16-0683 Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant-Unit 2 Special Report No. 2016-002-00. Alternate AC Source Out of Service This Special Report is being submitted as required by Technical Specifications (TS) 5.6.11 due to the 2C Diesel Generator (DG), the Alternate AC Source (AAC Source) for Plant Farley, being out of service for greater than 10 days.
At 0848 on April 21, 2016, with Unit 2 defueled during refueling outage 2R24, the 2C DG was declared non-functional due to discovering failed relays in the circuitry of the B2J Sequencer. Troubleshooting activities and delays in obtaining replacement parts led to the 2C DG being out of service for Unit 2 for greater than 10 days, which requires NRC notification per TS 5.6.11. Following completion of maintenance activities and functional testing of the sequencer, the 2C DG was returned to service at 1339 on May 2, 2016, for a total out of service time of 11.2 days.
There were two time intervals during this period when the diesel was available to perform Its AAC Source function. One of these was for approximately 10.4 hours4.62963e-5 days
0.00111 hours
6.613757e-6 weeks
1.522e-6 months
on April 26-27, 2016, and another was on May 1, 2016 for approximately 2.5 hours5.787037e-5 days
0.00139 hours
8.267196e-6 weeks
1.9025e-6 months
. These intervals of availability were not realized until after the failure mode was better understood following troubleshooting, testing, and restoration of the 2C DG. Therefore, the 2C DG was treated as non-functional for the duration of the out of service period.
