Subject:

Withdrawal of Relief Request for Indian Point Unit 2 Regarding Inservice Testing Program Relief Request P-I for Recirculation Pump Testing (TAC MD7517)

References:

1. Entergy Letter NL-07-157 dated December 18, 2007 regarding Relief Request P-1 For Recirculation Pump Testing.
2. NRC Letter on Request for Additional Information Regarding Relief Request for Containment Recirculation Pumps (TAC MD7517) dated February 21, 2007.

Dear Sir or Madam:

The purpose of this letter is to request the withdrawal of a Relief Request transmitted via Reference 1. In that letter, Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc. (Entergy) requested permanent relief from ASME OM Code requirements for the fourth 10-year pump and valve Inservice Testing Program to allow alternative testing of the Containment Recirculation, Pumps. The 4th 10-year interval Inservice Testing Program which commenced March 1, 2007 incorporated new versions of the ASME Code as required by 10 CFR 50.55a(f). As a result, a new requirement for the 4th interval involves testing of certain pumps at a flowrate that is within +/- 20% of the pump design flowrate.

The NRC granted relief, Reference 2, allowing deferral of the testing of the Containment Recirculation Pumps for the first refueling outage of the 4th 10-year Inservice Testing Program interval. Consistent with this deferral, Entergy will implement physical modifications to the existing configuration of the piping associated with the Containment Recirculation Pumps to allow for the Recirculation Pump testing in accordance with the ASME OM Code requirements for the fourth 10-year interval. Entergy is therefore requesting the relief request in Reference 1 to be withdrawn at this time.
