AA DOCKET NO.: 50-0331 DATE: 03/15/95 Unit: Duane Arnold Enerev Centq COMPLETED BY.: Richard Woodward TELEPHONE: (3191851-7318 Monthly Operational Overview for February 1995:

At the beginning of February the plant had operated continuously since December 1,1994. Cycle XIll end-of-full-power-capability began February 15, after which power coasted down by approximately 0.3% per day.

The "B" Reactor Recirculation Pump MG Set tripped on field undervoltage at 06:57 a.m. February 21. Power was reduced to 40% and control rods inserted to maintain reactor load line below 75%. No unanticipated power oscillations were observed at any time during the event. The B Reactor Recirculation Pump MG Set was re-started the evening of February 22 with no complications.

The DAEC remained at reduced power until 20:37 February 23, and then began inserting control rods and reducing reactor recirculation in preparation for Refuel Outage XIII shutdown. At 02:59 a.m. February 24, the main generator was removed from service. The following table summarizes production and losses for February.

Allocation of Production & Losses:

Actual Metered Net Electric Output 403.8 71.4 %

-3.8 Control Rod Movements. Coastdown 8.1 1.5%

9.6 Other Capacity MWe Losses (Operating at less than full thermal power) 29.4 5.2%

34.9 Efficiency MWe Losses (thermal conversion at less than full design output) 21 DA%

2.2 Design Gross Electric Output 565.7 100.0 %

672.0 While performing excess flow check valve testing on February 24, a Group I primary containment isolation signal was received and an MSL Drain valve and a Recire Sample valve closed. The event was caused by rack isolation valve leakage, which lead to a false high flow signal and completed the logic for the isolation signal.

(LER# 95-02)

Cold shutdown was achieved on February 25. On February 27, the vessel head was removed, the cire pit, the General Service Water System, and the Feedwater System were drained, and the turbine was decoupled from the generator. On February 28, the main steam line plugs were installed and vessel floodup was in progress. The completion of vessel floodup will end phase one of the outage.

There was a security event on February 27. (LER# 95-S01)
