[External_Sender] YVA Extension for SNM Physical Inventory Importance:
High Good morning, I am writing to request further extension of the NIST Center for Neutron Research (NCNR, NMMSS code YVA) deadline to perform our physical inventory of special nuclear material through July 31st, 2026.
The most recent physical inventory was conducted on September 23, 2024, prior to a planned maintenance period affecting the confinement building. Our facilitys technical specifications require confinement to move fuel in the storage pool. In support of our maintenance schedule, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission granted an extension on the SNM inventory with a current expiration date of January 31st, 2026.
The NCNR has made substantial progress in repairing and improving the confinement building.
Due to the complexity of the required repairs and the delay created from the 2025 government shutdown, we will likely be unable to conduct an SNM inventory by the original extension deadline. The NCNR would like to request an additional extension with a new deadline of July 31st, 2026. Given the potential for another lapse in appropriations at the end of January 2026, additional time has been incorporated into this extension request.
With your concurrence, we plan to again notify NMMSS of our intentions and upon successful restoration of the confinement building, conduct our SNM physical inventory at the earliest opportunity. Please include myself and all subjects Ive Ccd in this email in your response.
