image001.png Good afternoon:
Based on our recent communications associated with potential restart of the subject facility, Constellation Energy Generation, LLC (CEG) has requested a readiness review/assessment of its environmental documentation, prior to it formally being submitted to the NRC to support licensing actions for restoring the operational licensing basis for the plant.
The NRC staff stands ready to support this assessment to facilitate potential restart efforts.
It is understood that this environmental information will be placed on an online reference portal for the staffs review and to provide feedback.
It is understood that CEG anticipates that it will be ready to upload the environmental documentation the week of September 22, 2025.Once uploaded, NRC reviewers will conduct an assessment of the environmental documentation in their assigned review areas.
Necessary NRC staff will then participate in a meeting with CEG during the week of October 6, 2025 to discuss their observations and provide feedback. Subsequently, we will issue a publicly available summary of the observations/feedback.
The morning of October 8, 2025 will be acceptable to the staff. If this date presents a conflict, I am happy to discuss alternative dates and/or times.
The following staff will require access to the portal:
Kevin Folk Kevin.folk@nrc.gov Ashley Waldron ashley.waldron@nrc.gov Bradley Werling bradley.werling2@nrc.gov Jeff Rikhoff jeffrey.rikhoff@nrc.gov Nancy Martinez nancy.martinez@nrc.gov Gerry Stirewalt gerry.stirewalt@nrc.gov Lloyd Desotell lloyd.desotell@nrc.gov Briana Arlene briana.arlene@nrc.gov Mitchell Dehmer mitchell.dehmer@nrc.gov Sarah Lopas sarah.lopas@nrc.gov Don Palmrose donald.palmrose@nrc.gov Bill Rautzen william.rautzen@nrc.gov
As part of the readiness assessment, the NRC staffs review will be limited to identifying any significant issues including serious gaps or omissions in the environmental documentation which might hinder the NRC staffs completion of a timely and legally defensible environmental review of the requested licensing actions, as specified in the NRCs environmental review regulations.
The staff estimates that this activity will require a total of approximately 80 hours9.259259e-4 days
0.0222 hours
1.322751e-4 weeks
3.044e-5 months
. As previously communicated, this activity will be tracked separately from other ongoing pre-submittal activities.
The NRC staff notes that a readiness assessment is not part of the NRC staff official acceptance review process, and the observations from the readiness assessment do not predetermine whether the environmental portion of CEGs application will be sufficient for docketing.
We look forward to engaging with you on potential restart activities for Crane!
Of course, please contact me if you have any immediate questions or concerns.
