SUMMARY
OF WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC COMPANY 2025 FUEL PERFORMANCE UPDATE CLOSED MEETING (EPID L-2025-NTM-0003)
On September 9, 2025, a closed annual hybrid meeting between Westinghouse Electric Company (Westinghouse) representatives and U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff was held to discuss proprietary information related to Westinghouse fuel performance and future topical report (TR) submittals. The Westinghouse representatives shared Westinghouses perspectives on the increased enrichment (IE) rulemaking along with an overview of the industrys messaging and feedback from IE workshops. As part of the same presentation, the Westinghouse representatives discussed FULL SPECTRUM' loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA) and beyond design basis LOCA analysis along with the Electric Power Research Institute Alternative Licensing Strategy for fuel dispersal timeline. The Westinghouse representatives provided updates on Westinghouse EnCore high energy fuel and accident tolerant fuel programs and boiling water reactor (BWR) control rod blade performance including the details on a planned TR. Additionally, Westinghouse representatives provided updates on pressurized water reactor (PWR) fuel performance codes and methods, BWR fuel performance codes and methods including BWR technology roadmap, and the departure from nucleate boiling predictive modeling using machine learning technology. The Westinghouse representatives concluded the presentations with an overview of time-at-temperature initiative for PWR and BWRs, Westinghouse methodologies applicable to core operating limits reports, and updates on eVinci microreactor including details on future license application submittal and TRs plans. The NRC staff also participated in the tour of Westinghouse eVinci facility.
