SUBJECT:
REQUEST TO THE OAK RIDGE PUBLIC LIBRARY TO MAINTAIN A COPY OF THE DRAFT ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT FOR TRISO-X, LLCS APPLICATION FOR A SPECIAL NUCLEAR MATERIAL LICENSE TO MANUFACTURE FUEL AT A FABRICATION FACILITY IN OAK RIDGE, TENNESSEE (DOCKET NUMBER: 70-7027)
Dear Michael Stallo:
On December 13, 2022, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) sent you a letter requesting that you establish an information repository for reference documents in your library.
The request was that the library hold copies of documents supporting a request and review of an application to the NRC. The NRC has received a license application from TRISO-X, LLC (TRISO-X) for a special nuclear material license for possession and use at a fuel fabrication facility (FFF) in Oak Ridge, TN. TRISO-X seeks to manufacture fuels for existing commercial reactors and high assay low enriched uranium to support advanced reactors.
The NRC staff has completed and published a draft report addressing environmental impacts associated with the TRISO-X FFF license application. As part of the review process, the NRC will make available a draft environmental impact statement (EIS) for public review and comment. This letter transmits a hard copy of the EIS. Electronic versions of this document and the entire application are available in the NRCs Agencywide Documents Access and Management System, accessible via the internet at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html using ML25267A128. In addition, application materials may be accessed at the NRC webpage:
https://www.nrc.gov/info-finder/fc/triso-x.
We are kindly requesting that the copy of the EIS be kept at the library for a period of one (1) year, if possible, for the publics use. The NRC anticipates finalizing the EIS in 2026 and will send you a copy of the final report.
