Isaac Johnston ndde.nepa-review@nebraska.gov dhhs.radiationprograms@nebraska.gov Request for State Review of Environmental Assessment for Fort Calhoun License Amendment Request Friday, August 15, 2025 4:13:00 PM Fort Calhoun LTP License Amendment Request EA - State Review.pdf
Dear Staff of NDHH and NDWEE,
Please find attached a password-protected draft Environmental Assessment (EA) prepared by the staff of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). The draft EA provides the NRC staffs evaluation of the potential environmental impacts of Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) license amendment request for the Fort Calhoun Station (FCS) in Washington County, Nebraska.
On June 18, 2024, OPPD submitted a request to the NRC to amend the License Termination Plan (LTP) at the FCS, which is a single unit nuclear power plant located on the southwest bank of the Missouri River in Washington County, Nebraska approximately 19.4 miles north of Omaha, Nebraska.
The proposed amendment would alter the dose calculations for the Auxiliary Building and Containment Building, the requirements for remediation and the survey mythologies for the final site surveys.
The site is currently being decommissioned under the DECON method, which is the immediate decontamination and dismantlement of the facility after permanent cessation of operations. The License Termination Plan for FCS was previously reviewed by the NRC with the Finding of No Significant Impact issued in the Federal Register notice on January 2, 2024 (89 FR 105).
The draft EA is for review by staff of the State of Nebraska only, it should not be disclosed outside of the State of Nebraska without prior written NRC permission. Please review the draft EA and provide any comments by Monday, September 15.
I will send the password in a separate email.
If you have any questions about this matter, please call me at the phone number below or respond to this email.
- Thanks, Isaac Johnston, Ph.D.
