On April 23, 2025, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a public meeting with Aalo Atomics (Aalo) staff to discuss their future regulatory engagement.
This was a partially closed observation meeting. Aalo presented slides which are available in ADAMS Accession No.: ML25113A048. Aalo presented a company and design overview.

Meeting Summary:
Public Session The NRC staff began the meeting with introductions and explained that a portion of the meeting would be closed to the public to discuss proprietary information.
Aalo presented slides (publicly available)
The initial discussion was an overview of Aalo and discussion of their reactor.
o Aalo is focused on factory manufacturing reactors in their Austin, Texas factory.
o The Aalo-1 reactor uses passive safety functions, a non-pressurized system and commercially available UO2 fuel.
Aalo then discussed their plan to build an experimental reactor (Aalo-X) at Idaho National Laboratory and their licensing strategy for the first Aalo-1 reactor and subsequent reactors after that.
Closed session Discussion of topics that involve propriety information.
No regulatory decisions were made because of this meeting.
