Docket No. 50-482: Notification of Extension to the Fourth Ten-Year Interval of the Inservice Testing Program Commissioners and Staff:
This letter informs the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) of Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporations (WCNOCs) intent to extend the current Fourth Ten-Year Interval of the Wolf Creek Generating Station (WCGS) Inservice Testing (IST) Program past its planned end date of September 3, 2025 (Reference 1). This notification is provided in accordance with the recommendation in Section 3.3.1 of NUREG-1482 (Reference 2) that a licensee inform the NRC of any extension before the date that would have been the end of the current interval.
Extension of the interval is allowed by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Operation and Maintenance (OM) Code. The applicable Code of record for WCGS during the Fourth Ten-Year IST Interval is the 2004 Edition through 2006 Addenda. Subsection ISTA-3120, "Inservice Test Interval," (d) states: "Each of the inservice test intervals may be extended or decreased by as much as 1 year. Adjustments shall not cause successive intervals to be altered by more than 1 year from the original pattern of intervals."
WCGS will be extending the Fourth Ten-Year Interval end date from September 3, 2025, to no later than September 3, 2026, with the Fifth Inservice Testing Interval tentatively starting no later than September 4, 2026. We anticipate submitting the Fifth Inservice Testing Interval IST Program Plan within 90 days of the start of the Fifth Inservice Testing Interval, which will comply with the 2020 Edition, no Addenda. The actual start and end dates for the WCGS Fifth IST Interval will be included in that submittal.
