OF JULY 17, 2025, MEETING WITH ATOMIC ALCHEMY, INC. (EPID NO. L-2025-LRM-0095)
On July 17, 2025, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a partially-closed meeting with representatives of Atomic Alchemy, Inc. (Atomic Alchemy) to discuss topics related to Atomic Alchemy upcoming submittal of its construction permit application. The meeting notice and agenda, dated June 30, 2025, are available in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System at Accession No. ML25181A752. The closed portion of this meeting was to discuss Atomic Alchemy proprietary information.
During the open portion of the meeting, Atomic Alchemy presented an overview of its mission and technology to be implemented in the production of nuclear medicine. Atomic Alchemy discussed its current licensing approach for pursuing a Class 103 license for a utilization facility.
Atomic Alchemy indicated that it is no longer pursuing the production facility per Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) 50.2, Definitions. Atomic Alchemy also discussed updates to its preliminary safety analysis report (PSAR) by incorporating feedback from NRC readiness assessments, site-specific geotechnical data, and updates to the facility layout and system design. Changes to the PSAR also include removal of content related to the production facility as recommended in Interim Staff Guidance Augmenting NUREG-1537, Part 1, Guidelines for Preparing and Reviewing Applications for the Licensing of Non-Power Reactors:
Format and Content, for Licensing Radioisotope Production Facilities and Aqueous Homogeneous Reactors, and updates financial assurance information.
