Dear Mr. Newton:
SUBJECT:
COMMENTS ON NUREG-1537 This is in reply to your letter of October 28, 1996. providing comments on NUREG-1537 " Guidelines for Preparing and Reviewing Applications for the
, Licensing of Non-Power Reactors." You commented on redundancy in the 4 discussion suggested in the NUREG for the content of Chapter 7.
" Instrumentation and Controls" and suggested discussing all aspects of a
- specific system in one location in the chapter and have separate sections for each instrumentation and control system.
The sections of Chapter 7 that you refer to in your letter are requesting different types of information about a particular system. While information about a particular system is requested in several locations in the chapter, the information requested in each section is different and repetition of ,
information should be minimal. We have no objection if it is your preference to present information in a format like you have suggested above that is different than that suggested by the NUREG. The NUREG is a guidance document and contains no requirements. As discussed on page 25 of the Introduction you ;
can also refer to information by reference. For example, to follow the format in the NUREG you could discuss all aspects of a particular system in section !
7.2.1 and then refer to that section when writing section 7.2.2. !
l When we update the NUREG we will examine the format of Chapter 7 to consider if a different format would improve the document. Thank you for your ,
comments. If you have any questions, please contact me at (301) 415-1127. '
Sincerely. l ORIGINAL SIGNED BY Alexander Adams, Jr.
