On June 4,2025, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff met with representatives from the Illinois State Historic Preservation Office (Illinois SHPO) to discuss a letter (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System [ADAMS] Accession No. ML25178A796) received from the Illinois SHPO regarding its Section 106 review of the draft supplemental environmental impact statement for license renewal of Clinton Power Station Unit 1 (CPS). In its letter, Illinois SHPO requested additional documentation including photos and dates of construction of CPS.

Discussion covered submission of additional information to the Illinois SHPO, NRCs process for evaluating nuclear power plants pursuant to the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended (NHPA), and options to obtain SHPO concurrence and conclude consultation. The NRC staff submitted additional information to the Illinois SHPO on June 11, 2025 (ML25191A010).
On July 7, 2025, the NRC staff held a follow-up meeting with the Illinois SHPO. During this meeting, the Illinois SHPO staff confirmed receipt of the additional information, the availability of photo documentation from the applicant, discussed updates to the final SEIS to include additional information about the facility, and options for concluding the NHPA Section 106 process. Additionally, on July 7, 2025, the Illinois SHPO submitted a letter (ML25189A223) to the NRC stating that no historic properties are affected. We, therefore, have no objection to the undertaking proceeding as planned.
