For Your Comments - State of Alabama - Farley Units 1 and 2 - License Amendment Request to Revise Updated Final Safety Analysis Report - EPID L-2024-LLA-0136 Good morning Quinton, The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff plans to issue a license amendment to Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) for Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant (Farley), Units 1 and 2, on approximately July 9, 2025.
By application dated September 27, 2024, SNC requested to revise the Farley, Units 1 and 2, current licensing bases to implement a new set of fuel-cladding fission gas gap release fractions for high burnup rods that exceed
2 the linear heat generation rate limit detailed in Footnote 11 of Regulatory Guide 1.183, Alternative Radiological Source Terms for Evaluating Design Basis Accidents at Nuclear Power Reactors. Specifically, the amendment allows Farley, Units 1 and 2, to utilize an alternate set of gap release fractions to replace the current gap release fractions presented in the Updated Final Safety Analysis Report (UFSAR) for Farley, Units 1 and 2.
If the State of Alabama has comments on the license amendment request, please provide your comments by noon on June 11, 2025.
