THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION RESPONSE TO DUKE ENERGY COPORATION, CATAWBA NUCLEAR STATION TRIENNIAL U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION-EVALUATED FORCE-ON-FORCE INSPECTION DATE CHANGE REQUEST
Dear Chris Newton:
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff received and reviewed your email titled Potential reschedule request (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML25073A030). Your email stated that Duke Energy requests to change the dates of the NRC-evaluated Force-on-Force (FOF) inspections at Catawba Nuclear Station Units 1 & 2, due to (1) security computer upgrades and (2) the refueling outage staging of equipment likely requiring additional security resources which could have a negative impact on available personnel to conduct and control exercises.
The staff finds reasonable to move the NRC-evaluated FOF exercise week inspection dates of Catawba and therefore approves the new schedule. Catawbas currently scheduled NRC-evaluated FOF exercise week inspection in July 2025 will be subsequently rescheduled to December 2025. Additionally, the NRC-evaluated FOF planning week will not change from its currently scheduled dates in June 2025.
