Ladies and Gentlemen:
In Reference 1, in accordance with 10 CFR 50.55a(g)(4)(iv) and the guidance provided in Reference 2, Duke Energy Progress, LLC (Duke Energy) requested NRC approval to use specific provisions of a later edition of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Boiler and Pressure Vessel (B&PV) Code,Section XI, for Brunswick Steam Electric Plant (BSEP), Unit 1. Specifically, Duke Energy requested approval to use Nonmandatory Appendix C of the 2021 Edition of the ASME B&PV Code.
The purpose of this letter is to provide the following supplemental information regarding the Reference 1 request. When Nonmandatory Appendix C of the 2021 Edition is used, the 2021 Edition of any other parts of the ASME Code that are referenced within Nonmandatory Appendix C will also be used.
No regulatory commitments are contained in this letter.
