U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION FEEDBACK REGARDING WESTINGHOUSE AP300 EMERGENCY PLANNING ZONE DEFINITION WHITE PAPER FOR PRE-APPLICATION ENGAGEMENT (EPID NO. L-2024-LRM-0096)
Dear Ms. Christian:
By letter dated November 21, 2024 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML24331A186), Westinghouse Electric Company submitted the subject white paper for U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff review. The white paper describes the proposed Emergency Planning Zone (EPZ) methodology and approach and the use of new regulations and guidance to support the objective for the AP300 small modular reactor EPZ to be set at the site boundary. A pre-submittal meeting was held on October 8, 2024, and a summary of the public meeting may be found at ML24298A157.
The proprietary enclosure to this letter provides the staffs feedback and observations on the proprietary white paper for Westinghouse to consider in a subsequent application.
