Sequoyah Nuclear Plant, Discharge Monitoring Report (DMR), April 2024 Attached is the April 2024 DMR for Sequoyah Nuclear Plant.
Respectfully, Travis R. Markum Environmental Scientist
TVA Sequoyah Plant NPDES Permit TN0026450 Description and Duration of Event On April 24, 2024, the manhole located in the roadway at the intersection southwest of the multi-purpose building overflowed. It was composed of clear liquid, with no solids, but an unknown volume reached a storm drain that flows to the yard pond. The yard pond flows to the diffuser pond and to the Tennessee River via Outfall 101. The flow was isolated and the drain was pumped out. Site personnel determined that unapproved objects, including flushable wipes, caused a clog in the line which resulted in the manhole overflow. Cleanup efforts began as soon as practicable when the leak was isolated. Repairs were completed to restore yard drain flow and the offending items were removed and disposed of.
At no time was there any threat to public drinking supplies, human health, or the environment Actions Taken to Mitigate Reoccurrence SQN has documented the event in the TVA Corrective Action Program and is in the process of determining corrective actions to reduce or prevent recurrence. Condition Report (CR) 1926690 has been written to develop corrective actions to help prevent reoccurrence.
