Dear Ms. Brock:
This letter is to inform you that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has completed its Preliminary Capabilities Assessment (PCA) for the states of Georgia and South Carolina risk and host counties offsite response organizations ability to respond to an emergency at the Vogtle Electric Generating Plant (VEGP) in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
On October 3, 2024, based on the PCA performed and our review of available information gathered in discussions with the OROs, FEMA has concluded offsite radiological emergency preparedness (EP) remains adequate to provide Reasonable Assurance and appropriate measures can be taken to protect the health and safety of the public in a radiological emergency at the VEGP. At this time, FEMA is not initiating actions to conduct a Disaster Initiated Review (DIR) of offsite EP issues within the VEGP 10-mile emergency planning zone.
Please contact me at (202) 304-5399, if you have any questions or require any further assistance on this matter.
Sincerely, Bruce C. Foreman Director, Technological Hazards Division BRUCE C FOREMAN Digitally signed by BRUCE C FOREMAN Date: 2024.10.11 10:36:32
