By letter dated June 16, 2023 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS)
Accession No. ML23167C168), Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (MELCO, the vendor) requested review of a topical report on the revised Mitsubishi Electric Total Advanced Controller (MELTAC)
Platform. This request was supplemented by letter dated July 7, 2023 (ADAMS Accession No. ML23188A194). The MELTAC Platform is a computer based programmable logic controller consisting of a pre-defined set of hardware and software components which was developed for nuclear applications. The staff accepted the MELTAC Platform for review on August 16, 2023 (ADAMS Accession No. ML23179A168)
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff in the Instrumentation & Controls Branch (EICB) in the Division of Engineering and External Hazards (DEX) is in the process of reviewing your application. Based on our review, the NRC staff has identified the attached final requests for additional information (RAIs). The proprietary version of the RAIs is provided in Enclosure 1 and has been placed in the box.com folder (yourself, Kenneth Krayvo, and Furuno Kenichi have been given access to the document). The non-proprietary version of the RAIs is provided in Enclosure 2 and can be accessed in ADAMS.
By letter date January 19, 2024, (ADAMS Accession No. ML24010A022) the NRC issued the first set of RAIs on the initial review documents. The enclosed RAIs are separate from the previously issued RAIs but will be tracked in consecutive order following the last of the previous RAIs. On October 4, 2024, the NRC staff held a clarification call with MELCO to ensure that MELCO understood the information being sought in these RAIs.
These requests for additional information were discussed with MEPPI staff and a mutually agreeable date for the response is within 30 days from the date of this email.
