U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION STAFF REVIEW OF THE JUNE 2024, 2023, VERIFICATION MONITORING REPORT FOR THE GUNNISON, COLORADO, PROCESSING SITE
Dear Ms. Hurt:
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff is writing in response to the U.S.
Department of Energy, Office of Legacy Management (DOE-LM) document entitled, 2023 Verification Monitoring Report for the Gunnison, Colorado, Processing Site, dated June 2024(Received July 18, 2024; Agencywide Documents Access and Management System
[ADAMS] Package Accession No. ML24204A268).
NRC staff concurs with the performance assessment provided in the submittal that attainment of the 0.044 mg/L uranium concentration within the 100-year performance period is not likely.
NRC is aware that DOE-LM is currently conducting additional site analyses and evaluations to prepare a revised Groundwater Compliance Action Plan (GCAP) for the site as summarized in correspondence to the NRC dated March 2, 2021 (ADAMS Package Accession Nos.
ML21068A238 and ML21068A239).
