Dr. Eric van Walle
SUBJECT:
Letter of Motivation for Jeff Poehler to join International Group on Radiation Damage Mechanisms (IGRDM)
Dear Dr. van Walle I am a Senior Materials Engineer at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research, Division of Engineering, Materials Engineering Branch. In my position I am involved with research on long-term operation and materials harvesting. Radiation damage to reactor pressure vessel (RPV) steels is one of the key issues during long-term operation of light-water reactors, and these materials are also of interest with respect to materials harvesting.
I am also involved with projects related to reactor pressure vessel (RPV) integrity, such as the Reactor Embrittlement Archive Project (REAP) database, and I serve as a technical resource to the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR) at NRC in the area of RPV integrity. Aspects of RPV integrity of interest to me as a researcher include embrittlement trend curves, materials surveillance programs, fracture toughness, and embrittlement mechanisms. Therefore, it would be in the interest of my agency for me to participate as a member of IGRDM.
I am grateful for your consideration of my application to become a member of the IGRDM.
Sincerely,
/RA/
