PUBLIC MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT

Title:

Public Workshop on Development of Risk Metrics to Support Implementation of Risk-Informed Programs for Advanced Reactors Dates and Time: July 18, 2024, 08:30 AM to 05:00 PM EDT Location:

NRC One White Flint North, Room OWFN-06B02 11555 Rockville Pike Rockville, MD Category:

This is an Information Public Meeting. In this meeting the NRC staff will discuss the plans for work related to risk metrics for advanced reactors. The use of risk metrics has been employed to support risk-informed decision-making in a variety of regulatory programs and applications. However, commonly used risk metrics, for example, core damage frequency, may not be applicable for some non-light-water reactor (NLWR) designs. The NRC staff is seeking to gather stakeholder input to inform a strategy for developing risk metrics that a can be used to support risk-informed decision-making programs for advanced reactors. The NRC staff is also seeking stakeholder input on the use of operating experience data along with development of methods and tools to support reliability estimates that will form the bases for risk assessment results.

Purpose:

The purpose of this meeting is to gather stakeholder feedback on 1) development of risk metrics for NLWRs and their uses in regulatory applications; 2) advanced reactor operating experience data, methods, and tools to support risk estimation; and 3) interim staff guidance on the review of applicant-proposed risk metrics for commercial nuclear plants licensed under proposed Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) Part 53.
