10 CFR 53

10 CFR 53 is a newer category of regulation for “Licensing and Regulation of Advanced Nuclear Reactors”.

In comparison to 10 CFR 50, which is the licensing of most US nuclear reactor (2 step process, construction and licensing) or 10 CFR 52 for combined process (construction and licensing at the same time). Each Part, 50, 52, 53 are independent parallel paths for licensing for nuclear power plants. Plants who already have a license are not expected to change the category they are licensed to.
